Page updated 02/10/2009 11:41 AM

ASHHURST CARNIVAL ¡V QUADRANGULAR TOUR TRIALS:

All potential players, notified by Errol Gloyn Quadrangular Tour Coach, will be expected to attend trials to be held at the Ashhurst Polocrosse Carnival on the 14th and 15th February 2009. All trialists should have submitted the required player profile information to Anne Mickell, Quadrangular Tour Manager, prior to this weekend. All trialists are to have two horses ¡V saddled and ready at all times duringthe trials. Each trialists will be required to pay $40.00 for the weekend.

JUNIOR SCHOLARSHIPS ¡V Closing Date 14th February 2009:

The Board is calling for nominations for three New Zealand Junior Scholarships for 2009 ¡V two to New South Wales and one to Queensland.

Expressions of interest in these Scholarships should reach the Board Secretary by Friday the 14th February 2009 with recipients being named at the Sponsors Carnival on the 7th and 8th March 2009. Please note as per the by-laws - Juniors are to be nominated from their home Association along with signed approval for nomination from their parent or guardian. Proof of age could be asked for. A reference as to character should be asked for from the school that is being attended at present or in the past.

EXPRESSIONS OF INTEREST FOR A WORKER / PLAYER REQUIRED FOR QUEENSLAND:

The Board has received the following request from Sue Fraser for a worker / player to go to Queensland. Expressions of interest for this position should be sent to the Board Secretary by the 20th February 2009.

Sue and her husband operate a horse training and breeding facility on a property north west of Toowoomba at Biddeston. They have many contacts in the racing and polocrosse industry and her husband has been a farrier for 25 years.

They are interested in bringing a young NZ player to work for them and play for the Toowoomba Club for the 2009 season. The Club has a large number of young representative players ¡V the Club has 26 players, 2/3 of the Club players are under the age of 23 and 10 of these are representative players. The player would live at their home, be housed and feed, work with the horses and cattle (of course be paid), be horsed, coached and attend carnivals.

They would prefer someone over the age of 18, is a good horseperson, has a good work ethic, and an experienced polocrosse player.

UMPIRING AND DRAWS AT CARNIVALS:

All Clubs and Associations run their carnivals based on volunteer help. One of the hardest jobs at any carnival is the running of the draw. At the beginning of a new season this job is made even harder with new players and new horses that many Clubs have not seen play before and they are unsure of the grading of these players / teams.

Clubs and Associations have the right to run their carnival how they wish, however the welfare of the horses should always be a prime concern. Back to back games and umpiring straight after playing are to be avoided to allow for the required break between games for horses.

However, you as the general player / Club can help by ensuring that you have your entries in on time to help with the draw; notify the draw committee immediately of any changes to teams; make sure that umpires turn up on time; if you notice something ¡§wrong¡¨ with the draw then please make the draw committee aware of this at soon as possible; if you need to change umpires etc please notify the draw committee of this.
